Simply stated, we want to help! The online group exhibition, Postcards of Positivity, during the Pandemic, will benefit artists and Artist Relief—a support fund for artists affected by COVID-19.
We've invited artists to contribute original works of art that share a message of optimism expressed in the humble format of a postcard. These original works of art are created in any medium by participating artist from regional, national, and international locations. Intimately proportioned these exclusive works of art symbolize an artistic moment of positivity, creativity, and philanthropy, during a time when the world reflects profoundly on health and mortality, social turmoil and injustice.
Curated in conjunction with the postcards, the exhibition will also include limited edition prints and photographs. Specifically, six photos that were taken of the famous piano on which John Lennon composed and recorded the song "Imagine." Lennon's lyrics inspired a culture of positive prayer to imagine a world at peace—a message just as relevant today as it was back in 1971. The piano was later owned by the late George Michael, who commissioned British photographer Richard Young, to shoot the Steinway piano, creating a set of six intimate images. * A gift from the collection of Kenny Goss, we have included one edition of each work in the exhibition.
Imagine a world without hate, anger and violence—originally exhibited on the IMAGINE Piano Peace Project U.S. Tour in 2007, the piano travelled to locations historically connected to a violent past. A symbol of peace, the piano and photos finally showcased at The Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas last May. Now more than ever, these intimate images represent a wish for a world with hope and peace.
Artrinity in partnership with The Goss-Michael Foundation will donate 100% of sales, benefiting Artist Relief, a coalition of national arts grantmakers, launched in April to distribute $5k grants to artists facing dire financial emergencies due to COVID-19.
